ATI's SME Programme continues into 2026

The Aerospace Technology Institute (ATI) SME Programme provides grant funding for up to £1.5 million per project, spanning between 12 to 36 months, to help small and medium-sized enterprises develop innovative technology for the civil aerospace sector in line with the ATI's technology roadmaps to strengthen the supply chain and support the industry's drive toward net-zero aviation.

Key Criteria

Eligibility

Open to UK-registered SMEs. Businesses of any size can apply, but the consortium must include at least one SME receiving at least 50% of the total eligible grant.

Location

Research and technology development must take place in the UK, and the results must be exploited in the UK.

Market

The technology must have a primary application in civil aerospace.

Application Process

Prepare and Engage

Applicants are encouraged to engage with the ATI Hub and attend optional funding clinics to validate their project's scope before applying.

Outline Stage

Submit an Outline Stage application (typically via the UK government's Apply for ATI programme funding service).

Full Stage

If successful at the outline stage, applicants are invited to prepare a Full Stage Application, which undergoes independent assessment by Innovate UK and strategic review by the ATI.

This year, the first batch (batch 49) opens its outline stage on Monday 2nd Feb for two working weeks, with further batches launching in June (Batch 50), October (Batch 51). Dates for the full application process can be found on the ATI's website: Competition dates | Aerospace Technology Institute

What to do now

We do recommend that you speak upfront with the ATI before submitting an outline stage application. Do contact us at the MAA if you require any assistance in building a project team for this programme.
