New directors for MAA

Andrew Mair, MAA Chief Executive, announces the results of the board election at the recent MAA AGM


Andrew Mair, MAA Chief Executive, announced the names of three new directors elected to the MAA board for two year terms of office at the MAA members meeting and AGM on 5 November 2020.

The new directors are Samantha Buckton, VP Procurement & Commercial, Bromford Industries, Dominic Cartwright, Chief Executive Officer, Gardner Aerospace and Mark Johnson, NED and Deputy Chairman, Sigma Components (Mark previously served on the MAA board from 2003 - 2009.) They join more than 60 Midlands aerospace industry leaders who support the MAA as directors or as members of one of the MAA's three operational working groups.

Andrew thanked Mike Beirns, Client Services Director, Alliance Procurement Solutions and Paul Alexander Cotton BEng, CEng, FRAeS, Non‐Executive Director, Quick Release, for also standing in the election. Previous elected directors David Danger, Managing Director, Intertek NDT (and past Chairman, MAA), Peter Smith, Chairman and Chief Executive, Nasmyth Group (and past Vice Chairman, MAA) and David Whiffin, Managing Director, OdiliaClark were thanked for their excellent contributions to the MAA Board. 

Also at the AGM

During the meeting delegates heard from our keynote speaker Dr Clive Hickman, Chief Executive of the Manufacturing Technology Centre.

Clive has been appointed to head a new body aimed at leading the resurgence of manufacturing industry in the Midlands. The Midlands’ Manufacturing Resilience Commission, to be known as M2R, will review the Midlands’ manufacturing landscape post-Covid, contribute to the creation of a wider Midlands’ manufacturing strategy and develop recommendations to help build the region’s manufacturing resilience and its subsequent economic impact.

MAA chief executive Dr Andrew Mair reviewed the services the MAA currently offers its members, which opened in-depth small group discussions about other possible ways members could benefit from the organisation.
