The 2012 US-UK Defence Trade Co-operation Treaty (DTCT) permits the export to the UK, and the re-transfer within the UK, of many defence articles and services - without the wait and uncertainty associated with traditional ITAR authorisations.
What does this mean for UK aerospace suppliers?
The UK Ministry of Defence is conducting this seminar, hosted by the MAA, to explore how MAA members can exploit the benefits of the US-UK Defence Trade Cooperation Treaty (DTCT) and update UK defence and security companies on how and why they should join the “Approved Community”.
The DTCT came into force on 13 April 2012 and is intended to simplify bilateral defence trade between the two nations, as well as enhancing interoperability on the front line. Both governments want to do comprehensive outreach to industry to establish opportunities for using DTCT – in the case of Her Majesty’s Government all over the United Kingdom – and to provide a forum for constructive feedback. This seminar is one of a number of events in the UK.
Among the areas the seminar will cover are:
- A beginner’s guide for those who are totally new to DTCT
- An insight into DTCT from the Ministry of Defence, including UK industry feedback on the Treaty to date
- Exploring various aspects of DTCT, including the Exempted Technologies List
- A chance to ask experts about what DTCT means for your business.
By the end of the day participants will have a clearer understanding of DTCT and what it means to be a member of the Approved Community. They will also be in a position to make an informed commercial decision as to whether they can make practical use of the Treaty.
