This week's topic . . . three very useful funding opportunities and networks for Midlands aerospace companies
What other funding opportunities and networks are out there in addition to Aerospace UP and the MAA? What R&D programmes could Aerospace UP companies look to next? At this Aerospace UP Hour we are pleased to welcome three exciting networks.
Confirmed speakers for our meeting are:
Hannah Tew - Director of the Air Mobility Directorate, Connected Places Catapult
The application of today’s emerging technologies to the places we live, work and play will enable even greater levels of connectivity, driving new services, productivity gains and prosperity. The Connected Places Catapult is the UK’s innovation accelerator for cities, transport, and places.
Current active projects include Airspace of the Future, Zero Emission Flight Infrastructure, Transport Research Innovation Collaboration with a focus on the use of civilian drone technology Hannah was previously the Innovation Lead in the Future Flight challenge team at UK Research and Innovation. (We heard from Future Flight at the last Aerospace UP Hour.)
Hannah Abson – Aviation KTN Manager
The KTN’s (Knowledge Transer Network -- funded by the government) mission is to connect ideas, people and communities to respond to specific challenges and drive positive change through innovation. Their diverse connections span business, government, funders, research and the third sector. As KTN’s Aviation Knowledge Transfer Manager, Hannah’s role is to engage, support and foster collaborations across the aviation industry. These activities promote new knowledge for the benefit of UK business and economic growth, whilst focusing on decarbonisation of the sector. Hannah’s current focuses within KTN are the ISCF Future of Flight programme, Sustainable Aviation Fuels and the European UFO project.
Dr David Bailey – CEO: Composites UK
Composites UK is the trade association for the UK Composites industry, representing over 300 organisations, including the University of Nottingham. Heavily involved in all current aviation innovation programmes, Composites UK is fundamental to the future of aviation in the UK. David was previously the CEO of the Northwest Aerospace Alliance and is a Board member of the Aerospace Growth Partnership, a strategic partnership between the UK Government, industry and other key stakeholders, established to secure the future of the UK aerospace industry.
