Our major aircraft and aero engine manufacturers are making big commitments around achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. The DMAC (Decarbonising the Midlands Aerospace Cluster) study is being funded by DESNZ and IUK to plan how supply chain companies in one of the largest aerospace clusters in the world will achieve these ambitious targets while remaining globally competitive.
A plan for decarbonising dispersed industrial sites
The DMAC partners are creating and developing the first credible place-based industrial decarbonisation plan for an aerospace manufacturing cluster. We are engaging with key players along aerospace supply chains in the Midlands region to identify the key manufacturing processes and operations that contribute to greenhouse gas emissions and engage with local expertise to assist with the assessment of proposed solutions.
The MAA has partnered with six leading Midlands aerospace suppliers. ITP Aero and Collins Aerospace are the Tier 1 aerospace companies that will directly support the programme, ensuring that the Midlands approach aligns to the needs of the global aerospace sector and their customers. Together with SMEs Arrowsmith, G&O Springs, Technoset and Helix, the team are building an overview of the Midlands Aerospace Dispersed sites and the current and future state of emissions. A picture of the typical processes, levels of emissions and their prevalence will inform the development of an effective, pragmatic place-based industrial decarbonisation plan for an aerospace manufacturing cluster.
A further building block towards reducing emissions will be feeding our industries needs for affordable, decarbonised energy supplies into the national strategy.

Have your say
Help us to generate a detailed picture of Midlands aerospace supply-chain emissions by filling in our survey which can be completed anonymously.
Data is being gathered for use in DMAC reporting and will be used to generate a picture of overall GHG emissions and energy usage across the Midlands Region with a focus on the Aerospace supply chain. No direct links to companies or individuals will be published.

During the life of the project, this core team will regularly share what they have learned and their strategies with the wider Midlands aerospace cluster as a practical guide other companies can follow with confidence. They will also brief regional and national government bodies on the most effective ways government can get behind the plans.
